This body represents society in the University, and therefore collaborates with the University in defining criteria and priorities in its strategic planning.

The Social Council is made up of individuals representing different social interests in accordance with current legislation and of representatives of the university community. The president of the Social Council is appointed by the Catalan Government from among the representatives of social interests. Each mandate lasts four years and may be renewed once.

The university community is represented on the Social Council by the Rector, the Secretary General and the Administrator, as ex officio members. The Governing Council may also appoint a student, a member of the teaching and research staff (PDI) and a member of the administration and services staff as members for a maximum period of four years.

International Association of University Governing Bodies

The UAB Social Council is member of the International Association of University Governing Bodies (IAUGB), an organisations which aims to share good practices among the social councils of all member universities. In addition, the UAB Social Council is also the Association's Headquarters.
