Doctoral programmes with the Award for Quality: 36 UAB doctoral programmes received the Award for Quality from the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science during the 2004/05 academic year. This certificate is a guarantee of quality and is required by students and lecturers in order to apply for mobility grants. The UAB is one of the Spanish universities with the most doctoral programmes to have been granted the Award for Quality.
European University Association assessment: The 2004/05 UAB academic year was assessed by the European University Association (EUA). This assessment was organised by the Catalan Ministry of Universities, Research and the Information Society (DURSI) alongside the Catalan universities. The programme aims to increase the autonomy of each institution and give support to changes in the universities. The EUA assessed the university's quality control mechanisms and how it uses them in its strategic development. There were two phases to this assessment.
-
Fase interna:The UAB produced a self-assessment report examining the most important changes made to the University since 1998, when the final assessment of the Spanish Rectors' Conference was made. The report also analysed the reorientation towards the student as part of the harmonisation process of the European Higher Education Area.
-
Fase externa:An assessment team consisting of the Programme Director of the EUA and the members of various European universities visited the UAB on two occasions to discover the university and its environment and to see how the strategic policies and quality processes were being implemented.
The results of the assessment were very positive; the committee concluded that the quality of the UAB is comparable to that of leading European universities, and encouraged our university to concentrate its efforts on placing itself within the European framework by forming alliances with other universities.
