In Catalonia, the Ministry of Universities, Research and the Information Society of the Government of Catalonia (DURSI) has encouraged Catalan universities to adapt some courses to the future European model, while respecting the current syllabuses.

The pilot programmes have taken place for first degrees and European master's degrees:

First degree: these courses require a total of 180 ECTS credits taken over 3 years.
European master's degrees: between 60 and 120 ECTS credits.

Students who also want to obtain the official qualification have two options:

a)If the duration of an official qualification is the same as that of the UAB first degree, the student obtains both qualifications simultaneously.

b)If the official qualification requires an extra 1 or 2 years, the student must continue for that amount of time before obtaining the official qualification.

It should be pointed out that only the official qualifications are officially recognised by the State. The UAB unofficial qualifications that will be awarded as part of the trials for adaptation to the EHEA will be an extra qualification, and will be certified by the Agency for the Quality of the Catalan University System.
