Return Permit


Attention! According to an informative sheet 03/2011 from the Headquarters of Police, between June 14th, 2011 and September 30th, 2011 IT WILL NOT BE NECESSARY to ask for a return permit if you are entering Spain by land or sea if your NIE is already expired, and you are in possession of your valid passport and a renewal application receipt stamped by the Government. In contrary, if you enter Spain by plane and/or you are applying for your first card IT WILL BE NECESSARY to be in possession of a return permit.

All UAB members from non-EU countries must take into consideration the new law regulating the entrance and exit from Spain when applying for a permit to leave the country for a short period of time.

From Monday, 1st of August, 2011, forward, the return permit will NOT be issued by the Foreigner's Office, but by the National Police Stations by requesting a preliminary appointment at the following web site: www.mpt.gob.eswww.mpt.gob.es

If you are registered as a resident in Barcelona (empadronado) you must request a preliminary appointment in order to obtain the authorisation to return at minimum 1 month before you wish to leave. Follow these steps to get one. If you are registered as a resident in any other municipality of the province of Barcelona, you have to go to the municipal National Police Station without requesting a prior appointment. Check the Return Permit Notification above for the addresses.

You must pay the fees in order to receive the Return Permit - you may ask at the National Police Station for the form (model 790, code 012) or download it and provide proof of the payment on the day of your appointment.
