Introduction

One of the characteristics of today's society is the large quantity of information generated by a range of media. In addition, the progressive and continual development of new ICTs has accelerated this phenomenon significantly, facilitating worldwide diffusion of large volumes of data.

In most areas of knowledge, specialists rely on data in their daily work to be able to take decisions in situations of uncertainty: forecasts, responses to new and varying situations, partial knowledge of causes, etc. Owing to the compexity and variability of existing situations, statistical methodologies are increasingly sophisticated and diverse.

The figure of the expert in statistics is essential in projects working with multidisciplinary teams where work is carried out with specialists from other areas, participating in the whole decision-making process, from experimental design to the extraction of models for the interpretation of the results.
